The selection was based on his success in the French-Indian wars, his Virginia citizenship, the wealthiest and most populous province and his personal features that made him looks like a leader. The result of the  Battle of Bunker Hill was a British victory with a large number of causalities.  After the battle the two armies, American and British, settled in for a nine-month delay as the two opposing forces waited on diplomatic efforts.
