The ITCZ influences the region in the summer time and it is the zone where the north east and southeast trades meet. Winds bring warm moisture laden air to shore. These winds meet mountain barriers and lead to the occurrence of relief rainfall, with more rain on windward slopes and less on leeward slopes.
