A root cap in a plant is the type of tissue which is found at the base of a root in a plant and is usually called the calyptra.

They contain statocytes which perform the function of stabilising the plant with respect to gravity so that the plants do not grow irregularly.

As a result of this, the functions of the root cap includes:

  • Acting as a growth stabiliser in the plant, etc
