Consider the events you listed above, and respond to the following prompt based on your notes from the table:

You are a newscaster in 1965 given the task of explaining recent events to your audience. Choose one international event from the Cold War and one US event from the domestic arena that occurred in the period from the end of World War II (1945) to the present (1965). The events you choose should be ones that you believe had the biggest effects on the time period. Explain the importance of these two events as clearly as possible by including evidence for your choices.

Here are my notes so far:

1. The war between the Koreas in 1950 was the only military confrontation during the Cold War. The US supported South Korea and implemented a military base in the country.


2. The man's arrival on the Moon in 1969, representing a US victory in space war with the USSR.

3. The Vietnam War, between the capitalist south and the communist north. This war was damaging to the US with many deaths, costs and little efficiency.


4. The arms race, the two poles representing capitalism, USA and socialism, USSR, had a huge arsenal of war. But one of the two powers had to become sovereign because of the great power it held. So they started an arms race, with the construction of machines of mass destruction.


5. The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, which represents the end of the Cold War and the triumph of US-led capitalism.

It should be noted that World War II or the Second World War was a global war which lasted from 1939 to 1945. The war involved the vast majority of the world's countries which included all of the great powers.

The event that's illustrated is man's arrival on the Moon in 1969, and this represented a US victory in space war with the USSR. In this case, on July 20, 1969, American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin became the first humans to land on the moon.

He stepped out of the Apollo 11 lunar module and then onto the Moon's surface, in an area that was called the sea of tranquility.
