If they were to expand westward, US territory would overlap native tribal lands. They could have theoretically expanded around the native tribes or signed treaties with the native americans to circumvent this, but it wouldn't work as the US government had didn't understand native american culture back then, so they didn't know what was and wasnt tribal lands, or who the leader of the tribes were. So no, they couldn't expand westward without pushing out natives.
