Sagot :

Harriet Tubman was a female runaway slave that was responsible for the freedom of about 70 slaves. She was a central point in the Underground Railroad and made 13 trips from the South to the North. Today, she is seen as a strong female abolitionist who helped many find their freedom in an otherwise oppressive lifestyle.

Abolition was the movement where White and African Americans believed that Southern slaves should be freed. Especially in the North, the practice of slavery had always been less labor-intensive and during the escalation of the issue, Northern Congressmen and representatives made constant efforts to fully eradicate the notion of slavery. For example, abolitionist John Brown led a raid at Harper's Fairy in 1859 to end slavery (he ended up being hung for treason and murder after being caught by Robert E. Lee) and Wilmont Proviso made the effort to ban slavery in the new territories (although this plan was never passed in the Senate).
