President Franklin D. Roosevelt introduced a series of Acts under his New Deal policies in order to drag the U.S. out of the Great Depression but some of these Acts were struck down by the Supreme Court which saw them as unconstitutional.

In response, he tabled a Bill before Congress that was known in short as the "Court-packing" plan. This plan was to increase the number of Justices in the Supreme Court and Roosevelt hoped to use that to get his bills to face less opposition from the Supreme Court as he would be the one to appoint the new Justices.

The bill was defeated in Congress but the Supreme Court became more lenient towards Roosevelt.
