Không. Dân tộc Thái ở Việt Nam được phân bố ở vùng Tây Bắc của Việt Nam và có nhiều nhóm khác nhau. Ngôn ngữ chủ yêu là tiếng Việt, họ đã có mặt ở Việt Nam trên 1200 năm, là những người từ vùng đất thuộc tỉnh Vân Nam, Trung Quốc bây giờ, họ chiếm 1,74% dân số nước Việt Nam

Dân tộc Thái ở Thái Lan Người Thái, hay trước kia tên do bên ngoài gọi là người Xiêm, một dân tộc phân nhóm của nhóm sắc tộc Thái, là dân tộc chiếm đa số sống tại lãnh thổ Thái Lan và một số thiểu số ở Lào , Việt Nam , Myanmar , Ấn Độ ,khu vực miền nam Trung Quốc... Ngôn ngữ chủ yếu là tiếng Xiêm hay tiếng Thái Trung. Phần lớn theo Phật giáo Thượng toạ bộ, được chia làm 4 nhóm, chiếm khoảng 75 -85% dân số toàn Thái Lna
