In silver plating, object (iron spoon) to be electroplated is made cathode, metal to be used for coating (bar of silver metal) as anode and silver nitrate solution  as electrolyte. When current passes, positive ions moved toward the cathode and thus silver is coated to the spoon.

The process of depositing a layer of any desired metal on another material, by means of electricity is called electroplating.
