Time to appreciate some ASL literature, composed and performed by Deaf artists. If there is an ASL poetry slam that you and your fellow students can see together, plan to go on an outing. Afterwards, have a videotaped discussion in ASL about the literature that you saw, discussing its relationship to Deaf culture. If there is no convenient Deaf event to attend, gather a group of two or three fellow students and together watch at least three ASL poems, jokes, or stories online. Each participant can choose one or two stories for the group to view. Watch each story, and then the person who selected the video can explain their interpretation, in ASL, of what is happening in the story. Finally, the group can discuss different ideas about what the poems/stories mean in relation to Deaf culture and examine the literary devices used by the artists. Videotape the ASL discussion between students and turn in both the link to the stories and the video of your discussion.
