A child with cleft lip had cheiloplasty. Post-operative care for the baby would include:
O Place in semi-fowlers in left side lying position after surgery to prevent saliva aspiration and facilitate breathing.
O Do not remove the crust at the suture line as it will cause improper healing
O Use a soft rubber straw to feed the baby so she can just sip the milk.
O Do not let the infant cry.
O Hold and cuddle the baby frequently.
