STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS 2017-2018

Elected Student Government Positions:

President

Vice-President

Junior Vice President

Social Conveners (2 positions available)

 

All candidates must:

 Be full-time students at the time of the election. Full-time students must be taking a minimum of

6 subjects during the school year and maintain this requirement throughout their time in office.

 Have a 65% overall average with no failures on the April report card of 2017, and maintain this

minimum average for the duration of the 2016-2017 school year and the entire 2017-2018

school year.

 Have regular attendance and excellent punctuality in all classes.

 Have an overall good attitude.

 Not be involved in more than 2 major (Best Buddies, yearbook, Weston Aces e.t.c.) and/or 3

minor (Charity Club, Rugby, Art Club e.t.c.) extracurricular activities at a time. This requirement

is due to a lack of follow through of the student’s responsibilities as a council member.

 Complete a nomination sheet with twenty eligible voters endorsing his/her candidacy, along with

two teacher endorsements. Blank nomination sheets are available only in the guidance

office.

 Submit a one page, arial font, double spaced and one inch margins typed essay outlining why

you would like to be a part of student council and what skills you bring forth to the committee

with respect to the position you are applying for.

 Students applying for the position of President must have a minimum of one year experience

in student council OR another strong leadership position within the school (a specific

recommendation from the staff advisor involved is required)

Note: It is the responsibility of the prospective candidates to be aware of these requirements.

Elected Positions Process:

(President, Vice President, Junior Vice President, Social Conveners)

1. Each candidate is responsible for campaigning on his/her own time, not during class time.

2. If the Student Council staff advisors feel the candidate has not reached ALL the above

requirements, they may eliminate you from the race.

3. The completed Nomination Sheet and the one page essay are due to Ms. Galanis in the

guidance office by 3 p.m. on Friday March 24 th , 2017.

 

4. THERE WILL BE A MANDATORY MEETING FOR ALL APPLICANTS ON

TUESDAY MARCH 28 th , 2017 IN ROOM 222 AT 11:30AM.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTED POSITIONS

All powers and duties of Student Council are subject to the approval of the school administration, through

the Principal and the Staff Advisors.

 

1. The President shall:

a. Act as a representative of the student body on official occasions

b. Preside over (chair) all meetings

c. Co-ordinate all government positions

d. Act as a liaison between administration and Student Council

e. Oversee student council events and engage with the general student body

2. The Vice-President shall:

a. Assist the president in his/her endeavors

b. Assume the presidential role in case of the president’s absence

3. The Junior Vice President shall:

a. Assist the president and vice president

b. Be involved with the relations to the subject and matters of the junior grades among the student body

c. In charge of monthly updates for the SAC board

4. The Social Conveners shall:

a. Organize and promote all social activities within the school

b. Individuals to engage the student body by leading through example

 

STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTION CAMPAIGNING WILL BEGIN ON

WEDNESDAY MARCH 29, 2017 AND END ON

WEDNESDAY APRIL 12, 2017 AT 8:45 A.M.

THE STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTION ASSEMBLY IS ON

WEDNESDAY APRIL 12, 2017 DURING PERIOD 1.

VOTING WILL OCCUR DURING HOMEFORM ON THE SAME DAY AS

THE ASSEMBLY.
